I've even tried sowing [broadies] in paper pots I made and got better results sowing direct. Most things that I start off at home now I use root trainers. Having cardboard wrapped around their roots, you would then think roots growing down into clay soil that I've chucked lots of compost at [clay holds moisture]would be good but no,they didn't like it..
