is this a record

I cant believe I’ve managed to keep this Orchid alive for so long.. It was given to me in early April and its still holding on.
Definitely a record for me.. *smiles*

Now the challenge is whether i can get it to flower next year or will it end up on the compost. Only time will tell !

I’ve just placed my order for spring bulbs, for home and the allotment.

My usual narcissi paper whites, some dwarf tulips and short stemmed Asiatic lilies for home, with a couple of amaryllis.

This year I’ve chosen Apple blossom and Black pearl..  Along with a  mixture of spring bulbs to plant under my trees at the back of my plot -  daffs, snow drops, some crocus’s and  Fritillaiar { hope I’ve spelt that right} which apparently like it damp, so they should feel at home at the back near the tap where hopefully they will neutralize well.. And finally some alliums to go near my shed..

Thanks for visiting my blog, Dee.
I had an Orchid bought for me for Christmas. It flowered until May. I cut back the stem to a new bud, but it showed no sign of flowering again, so I snipped the full stem off right down to the leaves. Within the past couple of weeks it has started to put out a new flower spike. I’ve never managed to get a second flush from an Orchid before so I’m waiting in anticipation to see what happens.

Oh.. I read you should cut from a new bud..I’ll cut it down to the leaves and see if it springs back to life *smiles* There’s still a couple of flowers holding on at the mo..

  3. (Found you through Folia!)

My MIL bought me a white orchid three years ago when we moved into this house. As soon as the last flower dropped, I cut the spike right down to soil level. A few months later another grew and flowered.

Now I get double spikes which last for several months, and usually reappear within six weeks of cutting down!

I don’t do anything special to it – in fact, I’m probably quite neglectful if truth be told! I rarely water it, and have never given it any fertilizer or re-potted it. I just keep it on the bathroom windowsill, and it seems to be happy there!

I hope yours is as successful!
