ooh Moda - how lovely. and the yarn looks great too, what is it?? I totally agree with you on the whole catering issue - I was disappointed to find this year that the ice rink and associated cafe were closed, not because the tea is any better, but at least you can usually get a seat out there. Still worth a visit once every 3 or 4 years, just about when you've recovered from the last one.

Hi there, I just wanted to say that we made jam using your recipe today using local North London blackberries. We made it last year too and liked it so much that we used it again this year. A great recipe - it makes such tasty jam! Thanks for posting it.

I reckon senior moment 2 is a sunflower too. It may have been dropped by a bird between seasons.... I get quite a few rogue sunflowers here (One is currently being used as a tomato cane as it's so close - i would never have sown anything there myself) - The other issues? - well that's just the way it is sometimes.... Was your courgette totally destroyed. I had a tomato which got snapped right at the base. I used package tape to re-join it, and a few canes to support it, and it's still growing 3 weeks later. I'm well chuffed! BTW TJ is @ Ronnie Scotts Sunday 25th July lunchtime. I didn't see your tweet sorry.

Hi Tilly I keep my lettuce covered with a fine mesh-called "enviromesh" its very good at preventing my veg from being eaten and as for slugs..This year I've been very lucky and have been slug free so far. I have used slug pellets in the past when an army of the little blighter's moved onto my plot Lol.. but only the brand that are recommended by the organic society..

Hi Dee, found you via Down to Earth. I'm very impressed with your lettuces. How do you keep the slugs and snails at bay? I've planted 3 lots of lettuces so far and as soon as they poke their little heads above the soil something eats them!

One of the old boys at my plot gave me that tip when I was unsure of when to stop pulling.
Funny at the time as I had no gooseberries planted then, so I was none the wiser.
I did ask him what month and he just said when the gooseberry's are ready for picking and walked off Lol

Oh good I wasn't sure if it would help as you come across conflicting advice on the net. I usually apply some manure in Autumn - I'll switch to wood ash this year and see if that helps Thanks for visiting Debbie.

Hi dee.
i just found your site ffrom Down to earth blog. Many years ago i lived in South London for three years on my big OE and it is like a second home . I also grow my own and having for the moment relised that we havent quite got the land we so desire have decided to ring the farm to us! We now have chooks, and are planting out much more veges, making an orchard and so forth. I really have enjoyed looking at your log and am enjoying to have more of a trawl around when ive got some time.

At least your family will eat rhubarb pink. My family won't eat it any way, pink or green....LOL. Good thing I love rhubarb. Wood ash does seem to help. I apply a dusting every fall to my rhubarb and it's always been pink. Hungry feeder that rhubarb. Your garden looks lovely by the way.

Your letuces do look fantastic, but i can understand whey you are looking ofrward to your other produce. One of the ways I managed to get through them was cooking them. One of the delicious recipes was a lettuce quiche.
